Restore a rested, brighter look to tired eyes with lower blepharoplasty at Maan Plastic Surgery. This procedure addresses under-eye bags, puffiness, and loose skin while smoothing contours and preserving natural expression. The goal is to help you achieve refreshed eyes that look balanced, youthful, and in harmony with your facial features.
Smooth and Restore Under-Eye Contours
Lower blepharoplasty rejuvenates the under-eye area by addressing excess skin, bulging fat, and laxity. Aging, genetics, and lifestyle factors can cause under-eye bags or hollowing, which creates a tired appearance. During lower blepharoplasty, the surgeon removes or contours excess fat, tightens supporting tissues, and may use fat grafting to restore lost volume beneath the eyes. The goal is to restore a refreshed, balanced look while maintaining the natural shape and expression of the eyes.
Lower Blepharoplasty Corrects:
- Under-eye bags and puffiness
- Loose or crepey skin beneath the eyes
- Fat bulges that create a tired appearance
- Under-eye hollowness or shadowing
- Loss of smooth contours between the eyelid and cheek
Your Lower Blepharoplasty Session
Your session starts with pre-op marking while you’re upright, so Dr. Maan can map the lid-cheek junction, fat pad prominence, and any skin pinch that appears with upward traction. In the OR, your skin is prepped, and a local anesthetic with epinephrine is administered. Depending on your anatomy, Dr. Maan uses either a transconjunctival approach (an incision inside the lower lid) or a subciliary approach (a fine incision just below the lashes).
Dr. Maan gently dissects the lower-lid tissues to access the orbital fat compartments and addresses excess or prominent fat when needed. To improve under-eye hollowness and smooth the transition between the lower eyelid and cheek, he uses fat grafting to restore lost volume and support natural contours. Laxity is addressed by tightening the lateral support structures when indicated. If excess skin is present, a measured skin-only or skin-muscle adjustment is performed to avoid overresection. The incision is closed with fine sutures (when external), and the area is dressed to support precise healing.
Your Journey to Recovery: Side Effects & Downtime
After your procedure, you can expect temporary swelling, bruising, and mild tightness around the lower eyelids as the tissues begin to heal. Your eyes may feel dry or sensitive, and mild tearing or light sensitivity can occur during the first few days. Cold compresses, prescribed ointments, and keeping your head elevated help manage these side effects.
Most patients take about 1 week off work or social activities, depending on how quickly bruising resolves. You must avoid strenuous exercise, bending, or heavy lifting for several weeks. As healing progresses, the under-eye area continues to soften and refine, with improvements becoming more noticeable over the following weeks as swelling subsides.
Candidates for Lower Blepharoplasty:
- Are bothered by under-eye bags or puffiness
- Have loose skin or changes in under-eye contour
- Want to achieve a more rested, refreshed appearance
- Need improvement in under-eye hollowness or shadowing
- Are in good overall health with realistic expectations
