The Most Comprehensive Facelift Yet

SMAS facelift is a surgical procedure that aims to lift and tighten sagging skin and muscles in the face and neck area. The SMAS technique involves tightening the superficial muscular aponeurotic system, a layer of muscle and tissue beneath the skin, to reverse the signs of aging. This facelift addresses deep wrinkles, jowls, and sagging skin caused by aging, genetics, or weight loss, giving patients a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

Candidates for Full/SMAS Facelift:

  • Individuals over 40 with extensive sagging skin, deep wrinkles, and jowls
  • Patients who have lost significant weight, resulting in loose and sagging skin on the face
  • Individuals who want to improve their overall facial appearance and boost self-confidence
  • Patients who are in good general health and have realistic expectations for the outcome
  • Non-smokers or those willing to quit smoking several weeks before and after the surgery
  • Individuals willing to follow pre- and post-operative instructions
  • Patients who have adequate skin elasticity and good bone structure
  • Patients willing to commit to proper skincare and maintenance

SMAS Facelift vs. Traditional Facelift

The SMAS Facelift is a more extensive technique compared to the traditional facelift, targeting deeper layers of the face and neck to lift and tighten sagging skin and muscles. It is suitable for patients with more advanced signs of aging, while traditional facelifts address skin laxity on a more superficial level. By addressing the deeper layers of the face, the SMAS facelift can provide longer-lasting and more natural-looking results. Dr. Z can recommend the right technique for you after a thorough evaluation.

Your Full/SMAS Facelift Session

Your SMAS facelift with Dr. Z will begin with a thorough consultation to assess your needs and goals. Dr. Z will discuss the procedure in detail, including potential risks and complications. He will also review your medical history and perform a physical examination to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the surgery.

On the day of your surgery, Dr. Z will perform the SMAS facelift procedure under general anesthesia or local anesthesia, depending on your preferences and medical history. The procedure may take 3 to 4 hours to complete.

Dr. Z will make an incision above the hairline at the temple, extending it downward and curving it behind the ears. Through this incision, he will lift the underlying muscle and tissue into a higher position, remove any excess skin, and then re-drape the remaining skin back over the face.

Dr. Z uses advanced techniques to minimize scarring and downtime. After the procedure, you will be wrapped in surgical dressings to reduce swelling and bruising. Dr. Z and his team will provide detailed post-operative instructions, including medication, skincare, and follow-up appointments to ensure a smooth and successful recovery.

Your Journey to Recovery: Side Effects & Downtime

Your SMAS facelift with Dr. Z will involve a recovery period of two to three weeks. During this time, you can expect temporary side effects, including swelling, bruising, and discomfort. You may also experience tightness or numbness in the treated area, which is normal and will subside over time. Dr. Z and his team will provide detailed post-operative instructions to minimize discomfort and promote healing.

You must avoid strenuous activities, heavy lifting, and bending over for at least two weeks after surgery. You should also avoid smoking and drinking alcohol, as these can delay healing and increase the risk of complications. Most patients can return to work and resume normal activities within two to three weeks after their surgery, although recovery times may vary depending on individual factors.
