Enhance Your Nose While Honoring Your Heritage

Rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping surgery, has traditionally been performed with techniques that align with typically Eurocentric beauty standards. These methods often emphasized narrowing the bridge, lifting the tip, and creating a profile that fit a relatively uniform ideal. While effective for some, such methods do not always respect the diverse nasal shapes that make each person unique. Patients seeking refinement may find that a conventional rhinoplasty risks diminishing the very characteristics that connect them to their heritage.

Ethnic rhinoplasty is a form of nasal surgery that enhances the appearance and function of the nose while preserving your unique cultural features. Unlike traditional rhinoplasty, this approach considers the variations in skin thickness, cartilage strength, and nasal shape that are common among diverse populations. Dr. Maan customizes each surgery to refine concerns like width, bridge height, or nasal tip definition. The focus is not on changing your identity, but on creating natural-looking harmony that complements your facial structure.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty Corrects:

  • Wide or flared nostrils that affect facial balance
  • Low or under-projected nasal bridge
  • Bulbous or undefined nasal tip
  • Asymmetry in nasal shape or contour
  • Breathing difficulties caused by structural issues
  • Disproportion between the nose and other facial features
  • Excess nasal width that impacts profile harmony
  • Dorsal hump irregularities that disrupt a smooth nasal profile

Your Ethnic Rhinoplasty Session

Your experience begins with an in-depth consultation, during which Dr. Maan evaluates your nasal framework in relation to your entire face. He examines the thickness and quality of your skin, the strength and orientation of your nasal cartilages, and the proportions of your bridge and tip. Using photographs and digital imaging, Dr. Maan explains how specific modifications, such as dorsal augmentation, alar modification, or tip refinement, can address your concerns while maintaining harmony with your cultural features.
Dr. Maan begins by making precise incisions, typically inside the nostrils (closed approach) or across the columella (open approach), depending on the complexity of the changes required.

Through these incisions, he reshapes and repositions the underlying cartilage and bone. For patients with low or under-projected bridges, cartilage grafts harvested from the septum, ear, or rib may also be used to provide additional height and support. Wide nasal bases can be narrowed by sculpting the bone and for wide tip bases, the cartilage can be modified.
After sculpting and reinforcing the framework, Dr. Maan repositions the skin envelope over the restructured nose to ensure smooth contours and natural transitions. The incisions are closed, and a supportive external splint is applied to maintain the new shape. Internal splints may also be used if significant septal work was performed.

Candidates for Ethnic Rhinoplasty:

  • Individuals seeking minor to moderate improvements in their nasal appearance
  • Those looking for a non-surgical alternative to traditional rhinoplasty
  • Individuals with realistic expectations about the procedure’s limitations
  • Patients who want to avoid the downtime associated with surgical procedures
  • People with good overall health and no contraindications for dermal fillers
  • Those desiring temporary results, as dermal fillers are not permanent
  • Individuals with specific concerns like nasal asymmetry, bumps, or depressions
  • Patients looking for a more balanced and harmonious facial profile without surgery

Your Results: What You Can Expect

After your ethnic rhinoplasty, you can expect gradual improvements as swelling subsides over several weeks to months. While you may notice changes soon after the splint is removed, your nose continues to refine for up to a year (and sometimes longer!).

Under Dr. Maan’s care, your results will enhance the balance between your nose and facial features while preserving your cultural identity. You will look natural (not overdone), so your refined appearance feels authentic to you.
